It’s Fourth of July weekend and I’m at the shore with my family. Vacation with two small children is often more about survival than relaxation, but I’m able to get at least a little knitting in.
Operation Everyone Is Getting Socks for Christmas is well underway. One pair is done and I’ve turned the heel on the second.
I did an afterthought heel for the first time and while it’s a little more fiddly than I’d like it’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind for colors that pool weirdly.
The second pair follows the Hermione’s Everyday Socks pattern and while I think the heel flap and gusset look great on them, it’ll be a while before I do one again. Compared to short row heels they’re just too fussy.
I also brought a shawl project to work on, a sort of dragony-looking thing that’s a belated wedding gift for a friend.
Vacation is a good time for guilt-free knitting. I’m not worried about the half dozen projects in need of finishing, or the fact that I bought even more yarn for this shawl, or whether or not my Rhinebeck sweater will even be started by October.
